    Job description

    We are at a critical stage in our development and have an opportunity for an experienced psychological therapist – clinical psychologist, counselling psychologist, or CBT therapist – to join the Psychology Tools team as an scientific writer.

    As a scientific writer you will play a key role in creating resources for therapists, their patients, and the public. Key responsibilities will include:

    • Developing resources for psychological therapists and their patients (e.g. worksheets, exercises, information handouts, skills-development guides, audio resources).
    • Writing highly curated summaries of scientific and clinical literature to create accessible accounts of clinical best practice for a range of techniques.
    • Reviewing and updating our library of existing resources.
    • Writing articles for mental health professionals.
    • Collaborating with other psychologists, and with designers and editors in the production team.
    • Help to inform our content strategy.

    It is anticipated that this role will be a hybrid / remote role. You will be expected to attend some in-person meetings at our offices in Reading, but the majority of the role will require self-directed research and writing.

    We are looking for part-time and full-time candidates, but the minimum commitment would be 3 days per week.

     

    About you

    The successful candidate should have a professional qualification in clinical psychology, counselling psychology, or CBT. They will have a minimum of 5+ years of post-qualification experience.

    You will be able to demonstrate an ability to write for different audiences, and your output might include: articles in a scientific journal, articles about psychological concepts for a lay audience, books, or self-help resources for patients.

    The successful candidate may also have demonstrated experience as a science communicator / public communication of science but this is not essential. Applications from psychologists with experience working for a university course team are also welcomed.

    Essential experience

    • Professional qualification as a clinical psychologist, counselling psychologist, or CBT therapist.
    • Minimum 5+ years of post-qualification clinical experience.
    • Proven ability to write for different audiences (e.g. lectures, books, scientific articles).
    • Strong grounding in CBT.

    Desirable experience

    • Published author with a varied portfolio.
    • Has worked as part of a course team on a CBT / clinical training course.
    • Experience of conducting and publishing research in the field of psychology.
    • Experience working in child and adolescent mental health services and experience of delivering CBT interventions to children, adolescents, and their families, or
    • Experience working with ACT, MI, CFT, or DBT approaches.

     

    Role / Time:

    • We can offer part-time or full-time roles with a minimum commitment of 0.6 FTE.
    • This role is remote friendly – although the successful candidate would be expected to attend in-person planning meetings at our Reading office.
